Three ways to tile
Drag to an edge
Drag a window by its title bar to the left or right edge of the screen and let go when the outline appears. Drag it to a corner for a quarter, or to the menu bar to fill the screen. Holding ⌥ while dragging shows the tile right away.
The green button
Hover over the green button in a window's top-left corner. A menu shows tiling layouts for this window and arrangements for two or more windows.
Keyboard shortcuts
- fn ⌃ ←: left half
- fn ⌃ →: right half
- fn ⌃ ↑: top half
- fn ⌃ ↓: bottom half
- fn ⌃ F: fill the screen
- fn ⌃ C: center
- fn ⌃ R: return to the previous size
On newer keyboards the fn key is the one with the globe icon. You'll also find all of these under Window → Move & Resize in most apps.
Settings worth knowing
In System Settings → Desktop & Dock, under Windows, you can turn off drag-to-tile if it gets in your way, or turn off Tiled windows have margins to get edge-to-edge tiles with no gaps.
Tiling with one click
Bloom includes Tile Left, Tile Right, Tile Top, Tile Bottom, Center Window and Next Display as built-in actions. Put the ones you use into a folder in your Bloom menu and you can arrange windows without remembering a single shortcut.
